Wouldn’t it be nice if you or your child could sit down enjoy your acoustic piano any time you wanted without disruption?  Wouldn’t it be great if you could practice without anyone else being able to hear you? What a freeing experience it would be to know that nobody else could hear you repeat something dozens of times while you learn it! Well, those dreams are now a reality thanks to Schumann pianos and our new silent practice system!

Schumann K1 PianoNow available on any model of Schumann Piano (available exclusively at Riverton Piano Company), the Genio silent practice system utilizes a padded mute rail that is actuated using a small lever mounted under the piano’s keyboard. When engaged, it stops the piano’s hammers from hitting the strings. The system registers each key stroke with a very thin optical sensor strip that sits underneath the keys so it doesn’t affect the piano’s touch. It then sends that data to a sound chip that can reproduce up to 128 different instrument sounds, including drum sounds!  The system even includes sensors for the pedals so you have control of sustain and soft pedals when practicing silently.

The Genio control unit is mounted underneath the piano’s keybed on the right (or treble) side. It has a lighted and easy-to-read graphic LCD display. With a touch of a finger, the control unit smoothly slides out allowing you to control the headphones volume, instrument selection, recording, playback, metronome, transpose, and more. When not in use, a simple push of your finger slides it back out of the way under the piano’s keyboard.

Genio Piano Silencing SystemIn addition to the silent practice feature, the Schumann Piano Genios system also offers the following options:

  • 128 Instrument Sounds. This allows a player to use sounds that complement the piece of music they are performing. Beginners also tend to practice much longer because they practice their lessons using many of the different sounds. More experienced players can find that perfect sound to add impact to their performances or recordings.
  • Built-in Metronome. This helps a beginner so they can play along to the exact beat and tempo suggested by the composer or their piano teacher. Beginners tend to play the easy passages of a piece of music faster and slow down for the harder parts so this helps them keep an even, steady beat.  …and – with the Schumann Piano Genios system, the metronome is built in – so you don’t have to buy one!
  • Education Mode. With 216 built-in exercises by Czerny and Beyer, and 80 built-in Sonatinas – the Schumann Piano Genios system helps beginners build finger strength and repertoire skills.  You can slow these exercises down and practice them until you are ready to play them at full tempo.  You can even practice just one hand with or without the backing track.
  • Genio System Optical Key Sensors4-Part Recorder. Being able to record allows any player – beginner or advanced – to monitor their performances and pick out any mistakes they made along the way. Recording also helps beginners learn.  By recording one hand and playing the other along with it, they can master a piece more easily than if they try to learn both hands together right away.  More experienced players can share their performances with friends by saving their recordings to USB or MIDI software like Finale, etc.
  • Audio OUT. Want to play your acoustic piano with strings or a nice pad sound?  Connect speakers to your Schumann Piano Genios system and you can play along with any of the system’s 128 instrument sounds or any of your recordings!
  • Transpose. With speakers attached, you can transpose your Piano Genios system and play music in one key while the system plays music in another key!  This is very helpful when playing with singers or other instrumentalists.
  • Smart Pedal. Smart Pedal is a life saver for pianists playing organ sounds.  With Smart Pedal on, the organ sound will produce clean, authentic sounds even if the player forgets to take his or her foot off the piano’s pedal.
  • Genio Piano Silencing System Control Box backAudio IN. Connect your tablet or smart phone and play along with the band through headphones.  You can have hours of fun that only you can hear.
  • MIDI Controller. You can use your piano as a MIDI controller for any computer software or studio equipment. Any professional knows – you always play better on a piano you’re familiar with!
